Heart Disease

What is Heart Disease?

Heart Disease refers to a variety of cardiovascular system disorders and conditions that affect heart. The most common type of heart disease is Coronary Heart Disease (CHD), also called Coronary Artery Disease.

Cardiovascular System

The cardiovascular (CV) system is the circulatory system of the heart, blood vessels and blood that is responsible for the transport of oxygen and nutrients, as well as waste products through the body.

Heart

The pumping heart provides the energy that makes the circulation of blood through the vascular system possible.

Coronary Heart Disease (Coronary Artery Disease)

The arteries that supply blood to the heart are called coronary arteries; thery are located on the surface of the heart. There are three major coronary arteries, one on the right and two on the left.

Coronary heart disease happens when your coronary arteries become narrowed and hardened due to the buildup of cholesterol and other substances in the inner lining of the blood vessel, a process known as Atherosclerosis. When this happens the blood and oxygen supply to the heart muscle is restricted, especially during exercise, resulting in pain or discomfort in the chest area known as Angina, or even Heart Attack:

Angina when the coronary arteries is partially blocked, the patient may experience chests pains
Heart Attack when the coronary arteries become completely blocked, the patient will have a myocardial infarction. Heart attack is the most common cause of heart failure

Other risking factors for coronary heart disease include smoking, high cholesterol, hypertension commonly known as high blood pressure, diabetes, and inadequate physical activity.

Protect your heart by adapting to a healthier lifestyle, including stopping smoking; changing to a diet of lower cholesterol, lower saturated fats, and high dietary fiber; cutting down salt intake; exercising more and doing meditations.

Heart Attack Symtoms (Symptoms - the right spelling)

Common symptoms of heart attack include:
  • Chest pains and discomfort in the chest area
  • Pains and discomfort in other area of the upper body, especially the left arm and upper back
  • Chest pressure
  • shortness of breath
  • sweating
  • heartburn
  • nausea

For those who want an alternative approach to heart disease, living a healthier lifestyle is essential both to prevent cardiovascular disease. Changing the diet to one that is rich in dietary fiber should be one of the best approaches.

Clinical studies by Dr. Tapan K. Basu, Professor, Department of Agricultural, Food & Nutritional Science at the University of Alberta show that HDL-cholesterol (a protective factor against coronary heart disease, CHD) was significantly increased by Fibresonic supplementation for 30 days.
